Euthanasia Services for Pets

Losing a pet can feel the same as losing any other member of your family. The grieving process can be overwhelming for anyone. When it’s time to discuss end of life care for your furry friend, our dedicated staff will be here to provide a listening ear and give the best advice.

What is euthanasia in pets?

Euthanasia is a humane way of ending your pet’s life. The procedure is only carried out by a licensed veterinarian. Euthanasia is also referred to as “putting down” your pet.

Is euthanasia right for my pet?

Veterinarians may recommend the procedure but the decision to euthanize a pet lies solely with the owner. You have spent many cherished years with your pet and you can notice when their quality of life is diminishing. A veterinarian will only recommend euthanasia when the patient is having chronic pain or illness and all treatments to remedy the condition have failed. At home, when your pet becomes less playful or their adorable traits start to disappear, you know their quality of life is low. If you’ve noticed your pet has become less of themselves, call our team at 403.936.4571 to discuss your concerns. We are always available to provide advice.

Will my pet feel pain during euthanasia?

No. To keep pets calm we give them a sedative before we administer medication to end their life. Our veterinarians have received special training to help them pass away peacefully so there will be no hiccups. When the injection is administered it immediately stops the heart, lungs and other organs from functioning. It’s over in less than a minute and the patient doesn’t feel any pain.
