Spaying and Neutering

Spaying and neutering are standard procedures that should be on every pet owner’s agenda. The main benefit of having these procedures done on your pets is to prevent unwanted litters. Having your pet fixed is also a good decision as it can protect them from developing illnesses in the future.

What is spaying and neutering?

Both procedures prevent your pet from reproducing, they just have different names for the female and male versions. Neutering is removing the male reproductive organs (testicles) of your pet. Spaying removes the female’s uterus and ovaries.

Why should I consider spay or neuter surgery for my pet?

Better mannerisms and behaviours in your pet. The heat cycle makes males pets more aggressive, spray furniture and roam the streets in order to reproduce.

Cancer prevention. Pets that have not been spayed or neutered often develop prostate, ovarian and breast cancers. Neutering can also prevent testicular tumours from forming.
Reduces overpopulation. This means that less cats and dogs will become strays and be kept in shelters where they may be euthanized after some time.

Other procedures can be performed during the surgery. To save you from an extra visit to the veterinarian we can perform microchipping and dental cleanings while spaying/ neutering your pet.

When should I spay or neuter my pet?

Can my older pet be spayed or neutered?

Absolutely! Even though the surgery is ideally recommended when pets are younger, it can still be performed on older animals. Even pets 7 years and older can be spayed or neutered as long as surgery will be safe for them.
